"INDEPENDENCE DAY" TWO AND THREE?

Although for quite a long time Fox wasn't willing to do the sequel to "Independence Day" because the price of at least $20 million which they would have to pay for Will Smith, was too high for the studio, it seems they are now finally moving on with the preproduction. According to IESB.net Will Smith has been locked for not only "Independence Day 2", but also for a third installment. The plan is to shoot both films back-to-back. The shooting could start sometime in 2011.
Directed by Roland Emmerich the first movie earned almost one billion dollars around the world, and was one of the first ginormous blockbusters of the modern age. I just wonder what will the aliens destroy this time, since everybody's favourite target, The White House, was blown into pieces in the legendary scene which made audience clap like mad in cinemas all around the world.

  1. That is crazy. Absolutely crazy. But if they do a fourth instalment won't it be called ... ID4? ... the name for the first installment.

    And Bill Pullman? Jeff Goldblum?

  2. The key word is "almost." Independence Day earned $811,200,000.00 world-wide. That's a lot shy of a billion.

    Ah, I'm not sure will there be anything left on Earth to destroy if they go for two more sequels :)

    @Alex
    yep, but at that time, it was a huge success, since we didn't have such huge blockbusters in cinemas as we have today.

  4. As someone with a weakness for disaster movies with a large cast of characters involving some indomitable force, I think it's great that they're doing more with this franchise. I almost cried at a certain point watching the first one! And I do like it that it's set in a recognizable world--however fantastic the fx and scenarios. Thanks for the post.

  7. I LOVED Indy Day when it came out, I think I've seen it over 50 times, just a great movie. I'm happy they are making a sequel - maybe congress can be destroyed too. :)
